The Canadian violinist Sarah Yang, praised for her expressive depth and versatility, performs throughout Europe and Canada as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral leader. She was named one of CBC’s “30 Hot Classical Musicians Under 30” in 2018 and has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Since 2025, she has performed with Joe Howson and Samuel Olivera as part of Cepheus Trio, and together with Joe Howson, she was awarded third prize at the 2026 International Competition for the Interpretation of Ostracised Music in Rostock, reflecting a shared commitment to rediscovering overlooked repertoire.
A passionate chamber musician, Sarah has performed at festivals including the Thy Chamber Music Festival, Toronto Summer Music Festival, and Casalmaggiore International Festival, collaborating with musicians such as Florence Millet, Annette von Hehn, Tony Nys, Alexander Gebert, Werner Dickel, Steven Dann and Scott St. John. She has also been an academy member with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss am Rhein, and served as concertmaster of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Sarah is currently principal second violin and associate concertmaster of the Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen, and alongside the classical concert repertoire, she maintains a strong interest in improvisation and regularly takes part in collaborative artistic projects and initiatives.
Since 2025, Sarah has been pursuing the Konzertexamen degree at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg with Prof. Sebastian Hamann. She previously studied in Cologne and Leipzig under Prof. Michael Foyle and Prof. Carolin Widmann respectively, and in Vancouver with Taras Gabora and Lucia Schipperus. She has also participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned artists including Mihaela Martin, Christoph Poppen, Heime Müller, Boris Kusnezow, Ulf Wallin, Ingolf Turban, Norman Fischer, and Martin Chalifour.
